Joseph Gordon-Levitt returns to host SNL this week. From monologue-turned Magic Mike performance, to a suspicious husband, to some wannabe black scarf designer, aaaand wait for it--a girl being set up by her folks, JGL really killed it!
So what else is on SNL this week? Well, we all know one Saturday Night Live episode is equal to tons of funny impressions by the cast. Episode opens with their own take on Live with Kelly and Michael. Nasim Pedrad plays Kelly Ripa, while Michael Strahan. Although Kelly wasn't that spot on, Jay Pharoah, Bill Hader (as RPattz) and the jokes were just too damn funny. It's either that, or I'm pretty much clouded by the fact that Bill Hader is one of my faves. Hahaha!
Anyhoos, moving on to the show's opening, Joseph Gordon-Levitt shows his bod, along with Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and Bobby Moynihan in a Magic Mike number. It was hilarious! The dance moves and well, Bobby's face just made me laugh off my seat.
JGL also appears in a series of beer ads, within the show as the estranged son of a wealthy beer company owner (Jason Sudeikis) who makes a name for himself making his own brand of beer called XXX Tres Equis, with a tag line, "One equis better than my dad's beer cos he was never there for me... It's two parts Dos Equis and one none of your business". Daddy Jason Sudeikis appearing furious after learning of his son's new entrepreneurial venture and ends up with a spat about not being a good father to him. Oh and props to blonde Cecily Strong beside him, who appears as JGL's prostitute girlfriend-slash-model. The beer ad ends with Jason Sudeikis taking JGL's seat in drinking the beer, beside Cecily Strong and spitting out JGL's beer declaring that it tastes like shit.
Another funny skit was JGL as hypnotist Tommy Bergamont (Dunno if that was actually the spelling of his last name. Haha!). He tries to "hypnotize" skeptic Taran Killam, who pretends to be in a trance, duping Tommy into thinking he really was hypnotized. (Psych!) And Curtis (Killam) was freaking funny in his tidy-whities as a raptor.
Now that the elections fast approaching, they also made a tampon commercial branded G.O.B. It's a tampon created by the Republican men to address women's needs. Do I smell a hint of GOP's stand on Reproductive Health Bill on this one? Yep.
Fast Forward Weekend Update. Seth talks about Romney's tax returns, his wife, and his self-tanner. Also, he joked about VP hopeful Paul Ryan, the POTUS, and the Romney tailspin. He also had an interview with Assad's two best friends from growing up, who as far as I can remember, also knew Ghaddafi from few seasons back. LOL'd at their very hush statements about (and against) Assad and Seth's "reaction" to having new cast members. On the show, Seth also had an interview with Ann Romney (Kate McKinnon). Did you see Rick Perry after she called his name thrice? Gotta tell ya, that Beyonce Countdown done by Ann Romney is one helluva laugh! Stephen A. Smith (Pharoah) also graces The Weekend Update to talk about football and Tim Tebow.
Mumford and Sons not only performed "I Will Wait" and "Below My Feet", they also appeared in a skit as a Beatles cover band, singing "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away", with everyone else at the background. In said sketch, JGL, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader and Keenan Thompson are buddies at a London bar talking about the vibrator at the airport, pretending to be Michael Phelps, being Sandusky's son, loving Beatles, and shipping a nephew to Mexico.
About JGL becoming a woman in a skit. We see him as Evelyn, a girl being introduced by her pushy parents, Kate McKinnon and Fred Armisen to an uncomfortable Tim Robinson in a song and dance number. Props to JGL's yodel!
SNL returns October 6 with host Daniel Craig and Muse. September 29 will be SNL replay of Mick Jagger episode.
