How I Met Your Mother Recap - The Nannies

After his break-up with Quinn, Barney tries to pick himself back and gets back to his old self. He starts up "Bang-toberfest" to re-launch himself back to the market. Unfortunately, his plan was a flop. He now tries to think of other ways to make him visible once more to the ladies so he can finally get his old life back.

Lily's dad, Mickey, comes over after burning his home due to some pyros he kept at the garage. Lily and Marshall now have a system in taking care of little Marvin. They're having trouble as Lily's maternity leave is done and has to get back to work. That means no one will be left to take care of the baby anymore. Although her father's there, she wouldn't want him to look after Marvin, based on his track record with Lily.

Robin offers Lily to help out by babysitting Marvin with Nick. Ted and Robin makes it a contest, competing to show the world who's "clicking" more... Aaah, trouble with exes! This is gonna be ugly. The two are bickering about whose relationship is better and much more perfect. Later on, they both pointed out each other's partner's flaws and they realize that they can't really stand those flaws.

Anyhoos, the couple is having a hard time finding a nanny. After searching and searching, they finally find one by the name of Julie. She happens to be from Saint Cloud, Minnesota--same as Marshall's hometown. Too bad, after her interview with the Ericson's, she fell in love... with Barney! He made this story about being a billionaire single dad.

So Marshall, Lily and little Marvin visit Barney's to find him and Julie. They explain what Barney is up to and tells her that the job offer still stands. Julie would not accept it anymore upon knowing that they are friends with a monster (Barney).

Barney confesses to Lily how he managed to find all those girls. Turns out, Lily's talk with the gang gave him the idea to go to a nanny website. He posed as a single father, interviews them while his imaginary baby is asleep and when he's about to hire the nanny, he'll go for the kill--tell them that he can hire them because he finds them attractive and then sleep with them. Of course, Lily's furious. It was the night before she goes back to work. She still has no nanny. What kind of mom wouldn't be angry if they find out someone screwed their chance of hiring a nanny they like because of a one night stand?! After calling Barney immature, she storms off with Marshall and their baby.

The next day, just as Lily's about to call in sick on her first day back to work, their old nanny, Mrs. Buckminster comes back. She says Barney called up the agency and offered to pay her salary to work for Lily and Marshall (awww...) He also sent Marshall the race track he was playing at Barney's home as some sort of a peace offering for pissing him off.

Lily can't let go of little Marvin anymore. As Mrs. Buckminster tries to get the baby from her, Lily snaps at her saying that she can't give her baby to a stranger, and walks to Marvin's room. Moments later, she comes back with Marshall to apologize. She has an ever so severe separation anxiety that she can't let go of Marvin and go to work.

Back to Robin and Ted, they talk about the night that they each had with their partners. Robin tells Ted that Nick cried that night when she killed a spider. Ted then replies, wishing that he should have had the spider so it can breed on the ants at Victoria's unwashed dishes.

Barney comes rushing in, all dirty and bruised. He tells his story. Apparently, the nanny community--well the "potential nannies" he interviewed and slept with tracked him down. They gang up on him and he woke up in a dumpster. Robin tells him to stop trying to score girls because clearly, he's still not over Quinn. Barney's having a hard time accepting he needs help and is having mixed emotions shouting, "I don't need help--Help me!". He then sees a blonde at the bar and takes off.

After Barney leaves, Ted and Robin decides to just look at things in a different perspective. They realize that maybe their partners would rather help them grow--Ted into becoming a "cleaner" and Robin to let Nick wear her pants. Ted makes a toast "to making these relationships last"... Both relationships would implode within the month.

Marshall comes home to find Lily at Marvin's room. She thinks she and Marvin slept all day, only to find out that she's holding a stuffed monkey, not Marvin. After shouting... breathing... and shouting again, they rush to go find the baby, when Lily's dad walks in with baby Marvin.

Mickey recalls, "Well, when I came back this morning from my jog, Marshall was gone and I couldn't find Mrs Whats-his-face... and you two were sawing logs. So I figured I'd lend a hand." He then switches Marvin and a sub (sandwich) in a sleeping Lily's arms. She wonders how come she woke up to a monkey. Her dad admits he got hungry, hence switch number 2. He then tells them of how his day with Marvin was.

Lily, shocked, asks Mickey how he became this great father all of a sudden. Mickey then reminisce on Lily's first years, being a stay-at-home dad, while Lily's mom works. She thought it was her grandparents who took care of her, but in reality, it was actually him and that they only came to visit back then.

He also tells Lily the story of how America thought Mickey rushed to his burning home to a potato salad, when in fact, he rushed back in to retrieve a photo album... aaand his potato salad. He showed a photo album he made for Lily when she was still a baby. That's when Lily realized that he wasn't that horrible of a father to her. He apologizes to Lily for not being there for the rest of her childhood, regretting what he did every single day of his life. He promises Lily that he'll change now, and will be always be present now for Marvin. Lily says yes, and Mickey becomes Marvin's new nanny (enter a photo montage of Mickey and Marvin through the years).

Back to Barney, it was revealed that he hired Mrs. Buckminster's assistance to help him make better decisions... but he ends up sleeping with her too, with Mrs. Buckminster's advances.
