Prince Charming's Heroic Quest - Once Upon A Time Synopsis

The seven dwarves draw straws to find out which one should cross the city boundary to find out what happens if they cross the city line out of Storybrooke. Sneezy picks the shortest straw and he gets to step out of the city. Unfortunately, they find out the repercussions of leaving town through him.

Everyone now at Storybrooke are in a panic, trying to find the loved ones they have lost after being transported to the real world due to the queen's curse. Prince Charming, aka David Nolan, rushes to Regina's house demanding an explanation about Jefferson's (Mad Hatter) magical hat. David thinks that the wallpaper trick from last time was just an anomaly. That she still doesn't have all her powers, reason why she couldn't step outside, to be seen by people. Unfortunately, she wouldn't explain how she got them, nor find a way to get his family back--Snow and Emma.

Flashback. Regina tries to escape her fate of becoming queen. She leaves the kingdom, only to find out that her mother has cast a barrier spell to keep her in the realms of King Leopold. Her mother tells her that she can only leave his kingdom provided she's with him. Regina is reluctant to marry the king because she doesn't love him. But her mom's greed with power just wouldn't let her be.

Charming finds Blue (Mother Superior) to ask if they have the tree that carried infant Emma back then from Fairy Tale World to the real world. He thinks that through that tree, he can get back to Fairy Tale World and retrieve Snow and Emma. Blue says that though it may be possible, the lack of magic in Storybrooke might hinder him from going there.

The dwarves return to report to everyone of what happened to Sneezy. They brought an amnesiac Sneezy, who could only remember his life before the curse was broken. Leroy (Grumpy) realizes and tells them that if anyone of them tries to leave Storybrooke, their cursed selves will be their only selves.

David thinks of a plan to fix everything. Red asks him what that is, but apparently, Charming has no idea as well and says he's got two hours to figure it out, when the town convenes later on. David, followed by little Henry, leaves a worried Red with the town folks.

Meanwhile, Regina tests her powers by lighting a candle. She finds out that her magic still has glitches. She tries to escape her home and finds Hopper outside. He thinks that talking to Regina, making her spill her guts out, might help them into going back to Fairy Tale World and help her in the process as well by making her realize who she truly is. Regina adamantly refuses saying, "I know who I am." Then leaves.

Back to Regina's memories. We all know who made her the bitter person that Regina is--Snow White. Snow finds a box with a ring inside. She asks Regina about it but she says she doesn't remember.

However, in Regina's mind, she recalls to Snow, that it was given to her by Daniel, the stable boy. Snow White thought he left her, but Regina confesses to her that he met his untimely fate because Snow couldn't keep her mouth shut, revealing to Regina's mother her relationship with the stable boy. A mortified Snow is being choked by the Regina in her imagination.

Regina confides to her father, Henry, about her thoughts of escaping. Her father thinks that maybe it's just cold feet, but she explains that it is not just that. Regina thinks that she is becoming like Cora, her mother. And the more she stays in King Leopold's castle (and if she marries him), she becomes angry all the time. That her mother drives her crazy. That she wants a life of her own.

She wonders how her mother became that evil and hungry for power. Henry (Regina's dad) tells her about the man who gave Regina's mother magic and a book of spells. Regina asks who he is but her father doesn't know his name.

"Real world Regina" gets into Gold's shop, trying to find the book of spells. Desperate to get back her power, she asks Gold that she needs the book. That she needs her powers back the soonest time possible. Gold tells her to leave. He says that jumpstarting her powers is not in his best interest. Regina, however, fires back at him saying that he's keeping from everyone the fact that the enchanted forest still exists. She knows that he's up to something.

Turns out, Rumplestiltskin (Gold) still has his magic. Through Regina's motivation (threat of telling the people about the forest), he conjures up from thin air the magic book of spells that Regina needs. He warns her though to be careful that it might turn her green. She says she doesn't care as long as she gets little Henry back.

At Regina's flashback, she takes the book of spells from under her mother's pillow one night, when she was asleep. She summons Rumplestiltskin and meets him for the first time. She finds out that he has been waiting for her since when she was young. He predicted that someday Regina will summon her. He tells him that they're back where they belong... together. (I'm starting to think of all the people who made a deal with Rumplestiltskin back in season one)

David, back at Snow's loft, thinks of what to do. Henry recognizes the Mad Hatter's hat and explains to David what it is. He then rushes to Gold to get answers. David asks to buy from Gold something to track someone--he wouldn't tell. Gold asks him if he has something to use to track him and if he can see it. David answers yes, he has something that belongs to the person to track, and no, Gold is not allowed to see it. However, he gives David a potion. Gold instructs David to pour the potion on the object and it will lead him to its owner... but he wants peace in return. Nolan obliges, if he stays out of his way as well. A non-interference guarantee of some sort between them. Before leaving, Gold asks him what would happen if a person from Storybrooke crosses the border. Nolan informs him that it would cost them memories of their old lives.

Rumplestiltskin recalls how he and Regina has crossed path when she was still younger, more "portable". He tells her his ties with Regina's family in the past... and in the future. Regina asks for his help. He convinces her thought that she could be powerful if only she lets herself. That magic will set her free. He entices her with magic. However, Regina refuses, thinking that it would only make her like Cora, her mother. Rumplestiltskin then gives her something instead... a portal to to a different world.

In real world, Regina opens the book of spells and inhales magic from it. David pours the potion onto the Mad Hatter's hat and follows it. He then sees a car and finds Jefferson inside it.

At the town meeting, Regina comes in, with her magic back again. She uses her powers scare the people once more. Henry realizes that she's doing it to get him. Henry then sacrifices himself and comes with Regina just so she leaves the people alone. She then takes the child with her and leaves.

David and Jefferson talks about how they can go back to Fairy Tale World. He reveals to him that the enchanted forest still exists, only that they could not go there. David threatens him to figure a way, however, Jefferson tells him about the rule about the portal only taking two lives. It drives Jefferson crazy, he ran away. Nolan runs after him, but was stopped by Red in his way out. She tells David about Regina's powers. That it scare the whole town, rather crossing the border and forget everything than stay under Regina's reign.

Regina brings Henry back home but he runs immediately to his room, sneaking out of his window. Apparently, she made the same barrier spell her mother made, keeping him in. Regina shows him her magic and wants to teach him magic. Henry doesn't wanna be like her. Just like her to Cora.

Cora sees the mirror (portal) Rumplestiltskin gave to Regina as a wedding gift. She gets into a fight with her mother and pushes her into the portal. Trapping her inside.

Meanwhile, David stops the people from leaving Storybrooke. He gives them hope to go on living at Storybrooke because no matter how dark and scary their memories are, it is what makes them who they are to become who they want to be in the future. That it would be better than having no memory at all, losing themselves in the process. He convinces them then to stay, get back to their lives. And he promises to protect them. Telling them to come together, like they did before so they will not be hurt by Regina.

Regina continues with her life after marriage with the king. She meets Rumplestiltskin to return the book of spells. But before she goes, he asks her what she felt when she used magic. She confesses that she loved it and he convinces her to do so much, if she let Rumplestiltskin show her how... but if she agrees to do something for him someday.

David busts into Regina's with his sword and all of his royal bravado, demanding to see his grandson Henry. She calls on Henry and tells him to go home with David, surprising them both--Henry and David. She admits that she shouldn't have home in the first place. She admits she doesn't know how to love very well, but know that if she holds on to someone too hard, it won't make them love you. (Read: Mommy issues) She wants to redeem herself from Henry.

Hearing it all, David challenges Regina to prove that she wants to redeem herself. He asks her of the enchanted forest's existence. She tells him the truth, but has no idea how to get there. She requests for him to take care of Henry. David obliges and leaves Regina, bringing Henry back at Snow's. It is scene at the last part of the episode that although she wants to redeem herself from Henry, she still keeps the book of spells in an armoire, not destroying it when she had the chance at first.

The town finally gets back to their old lives as they struggle to come into grips with reality. Henry and David walks into Granny's and Henry whispers to Marco (Geppetto) where Pinnochio is and he rushes to find him. Gold looks past the border, probably contemplating on leaving town to find his son, until he realizes that he can never leave now that he knows the backlash that could happen if he crosses the city line. David tells Henry of the forest's existence, giving them hope that they'll soon find Emma and Snow again.

Episode ends with Mulan and Aurora dragging Snow and Emma. Showing them the survivors of Regina's curse. The two tries to escape, but was caught by Mulan, holding them prison. A voice of a woman emerges from the shadows of the pit. They find Cora, still alive, offering them of her assistance. (Uh-oh... Blast from the past for Snow!)
